The movie is based on Virginia Vallejo's bestselling memoir Loving Pablo, Hating Escobar. It was screened Out of Competition in the 74th Venice International Film Festival and in the Special Presentations section at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival.

Between 1983 and 1987, Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar had an affair with journalist and presenter Virginia Vallejo.

the director Fernando León de Aranoa WWFX’s team lead by our VFX supervisor Alexander Valev completed 300 shots for “Loving Pablo”. Our work included transforming Bogota into Medellín through DMPs and set extensions, creating 3D elements for the highway sequence including the plane and a lot of vehicles, recreating the White house interior from Ronald Reagan’s time. We also made a prosthetic enhancement for Javier Bardem to make the physical resemblance of the actor to Pablo Escobar bigger.
